For the past few months I have been working with Petro Mold Company in Watertown, PA to develop my fermentation crock design into a professional slipcast product. Petro Mold Company is a small, family owned and operated business that have been a pleasure to work with. It is with no small amount of chagrin that I wonder at how easily someone like me, with a MFA in ceramics and nearly a decade dedicated to learning how to throw and handbuild pots by hand, abandons the potters wheel for the pencil. The fact is, the design aspect of my studio life is by far the most exciting. The performance and repetition of forms once they have been developed and tweaked is less interesting to me, despite the romanticism of the potter’s life.
The photo above is of the fermentation crock on the lathe at Petro Mold Co. They sent me some photos of it for my approval before they take it off, at which point alterations can only be very minor.

Hi! Go to the homepage, then navigate to “resources for artists”, then there should be a section with glaze recipes. Good luck!
